Biography
SONJA KALB – COLOR EXPRESSIONS
full of emotion and harmony
Sonja Kalb focuses on the essentials – the colors and how they flow in her abstract expressionist painting. The artist consciously excludes any use of concrete representation. Color contrast, composition lines and surfaces, surface structures and textures are all elements which Sonja Kalb uses to design her “color weaves”. The flowing interweavements in Sonja Kalb’s artworks invite the observer to let his thoughts wander and find expression in his own unique conceptions. Sonja Kalb’s artworks are continually exhibited at different solo and group exhibitions, as well as at art fairs in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey, Iran and the USA. Her paintings are found in renowned private and company collections.
“Nature is an endlessly amazing inspiration for me.
Colors, color combinations and beauty always impress me. Through my studies in textile and design engineering, I received a comprehensive artistic education. From nature study drawings to photography and nude and portrait painting, I learned to work with sound craftsmanship and to express the quality of my own personal visual development and interpretation. Like many artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, I have moved from figurative painting over to the collage of abstraction.
I am inspired by traveling. The memories of the colors of a country, its nature, the light and shadow constellations all guide me in my painting. I see my painting as a contrast to the fast-paced, digitalized era and the disregard for the environment. It is a statement of my understanding and concern for us all to develop more responsibility and respect for the world around us and to rediscover the importance of the sustainable protection of nature.”
