Biography
Matei Vogel was born in Zürich Switzerland, where he currently lives and works. He studied music at the Zürich Academy of fine Arts. The passion for the visual art he mainly discovered in Italy spending time in Florence where he had some inspiring encounters with local artists. Having seen a exhibition of theVorticism Artists held In 2011 at the Guggenheim Museum in Venice, he was introduced to the works by the french artist Henry Gaudier Brzeska. That was a strong influence to start he’s own way of thinking and to create works of his own. In 2016 Matei was appointed to work in a spacious atelier in a old industrial complex where he started a intense period of work and research. “Notes from the underground” was the first solo show held in 2017 in Zürich, presenting a series of intuitive abstract paintings. Since then he had the possibility to show he’s works in selected locations in Zürich. In 2018 a first successful juried exhibition in New York. In 2019 presenting works at the London and Florence Biennale followed by a one month Artist residency in Rio de Janeiro
